Brandon Sweet Has Disappointing End to Super DIRT Week After Motor Problems Developed in Final Practice Session at Syracuse

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - October 19, 2011

Brandon Sweet and the BSR Enterprises team definitely made a statement at Super DIRT Week in Syracuse this year.  The team knew it was going to be tough to qualify for the Nationwide 150 with only 40 spots available out of the 53 cars on hand, but they were confident that they had the driver to get the job done, but lacked the funding that most other teams have.

Sweet hit the track on Thursday for the first practice session and was 41st on the speed charts.  Sweet and long-time crew chief Jamie Platt spent a lot of time discussing what the car was doing, and what Brandon needed to get the car faster.  Brandon and Jamie have been together since Brandon’s first time in a Sportsman Modified six years ago when Brandon was just 15 years old, so the chemistry between the two have matured to a point where Jamie knows exactly what Brandon wants the car to do.

In the second practice session of the day on Thursday, Sweet moved up on the charts to 37th fastest, and then showed drastic improvements when it counted, posting the 23rd fastest time in qualifying.

For the first time ever at the New York State Fairgrounds, Qualifying heats were run under the lights.  With his strong time trial effort the day before, Sweet would start his qualifier from 12th place.  He needed to finish inside the top 15 in order to lock himself into the Nationwide 150.  At the end of the race, Sweet finished 9th and we would earn the 20th place starting spot in Saturday’s main event.

On Saturday morning, the BSR Enterprises team was very excited about the progress they had made during the week, and were looking forward to the Nationwide 150.  Early on Saturday, the team got on the track for the final practice session before the big race, and soon after problems began to develop on the BSR Enterprises Troyer.  It was quickly discovered that a broken rocker was the culprit, and the team scrambled to find a replacement as the pre-race ceremonies were underway.  With the help of several other teams, a replacement rocker was found, but only enough to start the Nationwide 150.

"I’m pretty disappointed that I couldn’t run the entire 150 laps.  Our team put a lot of hard work into this weekend and we were looking forward to this race”, says a discouraged Sweet after the race.  “I know we had a top ten car this weekend, but I have learned over the years that this is just part of racing”.

The BSR Enterprises team would like to thank all of the race teams that offered assistance to get the car fixed in time for the Nationwide 150, as well as their sponsors FX Caprara Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in Watertown and Alex Bay, Finishing Touch Auto Detail Center in Watertown and Fort Drum, The Auto Clinic of NNY, Fast Eddy’s and Bradley Military Sales for their support of their Super DIRT Week efforts

Brandon Sweet and BSR Enterprises Prepare for Super DIRT Week XL

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - September 8, 2011

The 2011 racing season has been very quiet for Brandon Sweet and the BSR Enterprises team.  Lack of sponsorship and motor problems have sidelined the team for much of the season.

Sweet, at age 21 is a rising start on the DIRTcar scene competing in his first season in the 358 Modified division.  It has been a difficult season for him, only competing in 16 events so far this year.  They do have one victory to their credit at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park earlier this year, and have six top five finishes, but have fell victim to engine problems most of the year.

"I'm used to racing between 40 and 60 races a season so I got quite frustrated and bored this summer," says Brandon.  "I believe we have the motor issues handled and I expect to have a competitive car in Syracuse this year.  We picked up a few sponsors for Super DIRT Week and we are working on a couple more" he adds.

The BSR Enterprises team welcomes FX Caprara Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep in Watertown and Alex Bay, Finishing Touch Auto Detail Center in Watertown and Fort Drum, The Auto Clinic of NNY and Bradley Military Sales in Evans Mills NY as sponsors for Super DIRT Week.

Brandon heads back to Syracuse after a very impressive second place finish in last years DIRTcar Sportsman Championship race. The intention of the BSR team is to run the 358 Modified Futures Race and the 150 lap Championship race on Saturday.  Brandon and the team plan on heading south to the Moody Mile on Wednesday Oct 5th.

Brandon Sweet Returns to Cornwall Speedway After Engine Troubles Sideline the Team Last Weekend

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 29, 2011

For Brandon Sweet and the BSR Racing team, Cornwall Speedway has quickly become a favorite track, and after motor problems sidelined the team last week, he was anxious to get back on track this week.  With Can Am closed for the weekend due to graduation weekend for local high school students, Cornwall was the only track on the schedule for the Watertown, New York team.

Sweet struggled early at Cornwall, starting his qualifying heat from fifth and dropping to sixth at the checkered flag.  The dry slick track conditions played havoc on the team as they searched for the right combination to navigate around the tricky quarter mile bullring.  During intermission, Sweet and the team made several changes to the car in hopes of getting it dialed in for the 30 lap main event.  Sweet rolled off the starting grid from way back in the 17th position, and he knew he had his work cut out for him.  Patience was a virtue on this night, as Sweet quietly worked his way forward.  At halfway, he was now in the top, and continued to fight for the tenth spot for the next several laps.  The caution was displayed with two laps to go and in the closing laps he dropped to 12th.

“We seemed to be pretty good at the start of the race, but the car just got too tight at the end”, says Sweet after the race.  “We will keep working hard, and hopefully we can get back to where we were at the beginning of the season”.

This coming weekend, Brandon Sweet and the BSR Racing team will be back at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night.  The rest of the weekend plans are still up in the air at this time, as the Big Block Modifieds are on the schedule at Cornwall on Sunday.

The Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team would like to thank all of their sponsors on board for the 2011 season.  They include Jreck Subs, Diamond Storage, Philly’s Finest, McWizz Payroll Services, Blue Cat Cycles, Spirit Art Tattoos, The Auto Clinic and Finishing Touch Auto Detail Center.  We are very excited about the 2011 season and we look forward to the rest of the 2011 racing season.

Brandon Sweet Picks up First Career 358 Modified Win at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 15, 2011

Going into this past weekend, there was some uncertainty for Brandon Sweet and the Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team as to where they would be racing.  Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is just a few short miles up the road from their Watertown, New York race shop, but the team had contemplated racing elsewhere this weekend.  The decision was made to stick with Can Am and that is where they raced on Friday night.  They also made the trip to Cornwall, Ontario for another Sunday night event at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

The decision to go back to Can Am certainly paid off for the 20 year old racer.  Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park is the site of Brandon’s first track championship in Sportsman in 2008, as well as the SUNY Canton Sportsman Championship that same year.  It is only fitting that it would be also the site of his first career win in the 358 Modified division.  Sweet won his qualifying heat on the night, and then proceeded to lead every lap of the feature winning by a full straightaway over second place.

“This is a great win for us tonight”, says a jubilant Sweet in victory lane.  “We have had some good runs the last couple weeks, but we have also had some tough luck.  I really have to thank my team for all of their hard work.  We will be back in the shop getting the car ready for Sunday at Cornwall and hopefully we can get another solid finish there as well”.

The BSR team left for Cornwall early on Sunday afternoon, hoping they can build on their momentum.  Sweet already posted a strong third place fun in a 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series race a few weeks back and also had a top five finish the previous week.  The night started out with qualifying heats, and Sweet finished in second place after starting third.  In the 30-lap feature, Sweet lined up in the fourth position, outside the second row.  As the race went on, Sweet struggled, as the car had very little grip on the dry, slick racing surface.  At the checkered flag, Sweet slipped to 11th place.

“The track was very slick tonight, just no grip at all.  It is tough racing out there like that, and very hard to get a hold of the track”, says Sweet.  “We will be back here next weekend, and hopefully we can have a better run”.

Brandon Sweet; A Rising Star on DIRT

By Steve Brillant - 360 Nitro.com

In his first season in the modified class American young driver, Brandon Sweet has had a solid start to the season. At the time of this writing, Sweet has an impressive record. In 8 starts this season Sweet finished 4 times in the top 5. Remember his third place in the 100 laps in the series Canadian Nationals at the track in Cornwall where he looked like a seasoned veteran.

Sweet is the same age as Chris Raabe. At just 20 years, Sweet is one of the top prospects in Dirt. The team's # 24 has chosen to run regularly at Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday evening and Sunday's at Cornwall Motor Speedway. No doubt that his presence in Cornwall will be beneficial for his development because of the greater presence of excellent drivers will make him a better driver.

Sweet can be proud of what he has done so far. As evidenced by his statistics, Sweet made his debut at the age of 10 years and holds 6 Go Kart Championships. At age 15, Sweet made his debut in Sportsman and won 2 championships. Also remember his strong performance to finish second at the prestigious race on Moody Mile in Syracuse last season.

Meanwhile, Sweet has raced on asphalt in the USAR Pro Cup series. His best result came at the famous Rockingham Speedway where he finished 10th.

Born in Germany while his father was in the U.S. Army, Sweet remains today in the city of Watertown NY. His passion for racing cars began early. Just 8 years, Sweet knew all the names of drivers of NASCAR teams. Besides his number # 24 comes from his favorite driver Jeff Gordon. The # 24 also indicates his date of birth as Sweet turns 21 next August 24.

In Cornwall, I had the chance to meet his small team, consisting mostly of family members. The father, Brian Sweet, said he would like to see his son his son race every Sunday night in Cornwall, but this will depend on sponsors. In addition, they plan to follow the DIRTcar 358 Series.

It will be interesting to monitor this future champion!

Brandon Sweet Scores Top Five Finishes at Can Am and Cornwall

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 8, 2011

Brandon Sweet and the Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team had a pair events on tap for this past weekend, with a visit to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night, and to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.  Sweet is just coming off a third place finish last weekend in a 100 lap race at Cornwall the previous week, and was hoping for another solid run on his return visit to the track.

At Can Am on Friday night, Sweet started up from for the 25 lap feature, hoping for a strong finish to get back in the hunt for the Can Am track championship.  At the green flag, Sweet lost some ground on the start, falling to fourth at the conclusion of lap one.  Sweet fell back just a little further through the duration of the race, and by lap 25 he crossed the finish line in fifth place.

“The car just didn’t handle the way we needed it to tonight”, says a disappointed Sweet after the race.  “We have to be a lot better here to compete with the 49 car for wins each night.  We have a great team and I am confident that we will get better”.

On Sunday, Sweet and the BSR Enterprises team traveled to Cornwall Speedway once again.  Cornwall has become a favorite track for Sweet ever since making his debut at the track in Sportsman just two years ago.  Sweet started his qualifying heat from the sixth position and finished in fourth.  For the 30 lap main event, Sweet rolled off the starting grid from inside the third row in the fifth position.  After the first caution on lap two, Sweet had moved up to third place.  With ten laps remaining, Sweet was still in third, but dropped to fourth just a few laps later.  Sweet finished the race with a strong fourth place run.

“I really enjoy coming to this race track”, says Sweet.  We have had some great runs here in just the few times that we have been here.  It is such a fun racetrack to drive.  We intend to race here every week this season and hopefully get a couple wins and contend for the track championship”.

Brandon Sweet’s plans for this coming weekend are still up in the air at this time.  Friday night, they may race at Can Am, or take a trip to Mohawk Raceway, in Hogansburg, New York.  On Sunday, they will be back at Cornwall Speedway.

The Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team would like to thank all of their sponsors on board for the 2011 season.  They include Jreck Subs, Diamond Storage, Philly’s Finest, McWizz Payroll Services, Nelson’s Dry Cleaning, Blue Cat Cycles, Spirit Art Tattoos, The Auto Clinic and Finishing Touch Auto Detail Center.  We are very excited about the 2011 season and we look forward to the rest of the 2011 racing season.

Brandon Sweet Scores Impressive Third Place Finish in Canadian Nationals 100 at Cornwall Speedway

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 2, 2011

At the start of last weekend, Brandon Sweet was looking to rebound after a frustrating night at Can Am the week before.  They were hoping to return to the front of the pack at Can Am, but once again, an all day rain forced Can Am officials to cancel.  The Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team also had a trip to Cornwall Speedway planned, which included a 100-lap feature held over from the previous week, as well as a full schedule of heats and features.

The previous week, before the rain at Cornwall, Sweet finished third place in his qualifying heat, locking him into the redraw for one of the top 12 starting spots for the 100 lap Canadian Nationals main event.  When the rain came, and the race was postponed, the redraw was put off until this past week, and Sweet drew position number five, putting him on the inside of the third row to start the feature event.  At the start of the race, Sweet dropped to sixth, patiently waiting to make his move.  With seven laps in, Sweet made it up to third place, but after a series of restarts, he again dropped back to fifth.  Another yellow came back out on lap 16, and Sweet had now dropped to ninth place struggling with the rough track conditions at Cornwall.  As they approached halfway, Sweet was staring to work his way forward again, now sitting in the seventh position.  On lap 68, Sweet was involved in an incident, but escaped without damage, and returned to the field with only a few cars on the lead lap.  With just 10 laps remaining Sweet had made it into the top three, and finished a very impressive third in a tough field at Cornwall.

“It feels great, we had a really good run we started up front, but unfortunately the track was really rough due to spring like conditions and that set us back at the start, but we were able to work our way back through”, said Sweet after the race.  “I have to thank my sponsors and all the fans that come up here.  There are so many great fans up here and the amount of people is just crazy.  This is absolutely one of my favorite tracks to go to, and hopefully we can race here all season and run for the championship”.

With the 100 lap feature now in the books, Sweet and his team began to get the car ready for the regular events for the evening consisting of qualifying heats and a 30 lap feature.  Sweet started his qualifier from the ninth position, and after narrowly avoiding disaster as several cars came together, Sweet worked his way to third as the 10 lap heat race ended.  In the 30 lap feature, he rolled off the starting grid from the 17th position.  Problems developed early, and Sweet took his car to the pits on lap six and did not return.

This coming weekend Brandon Sweet and the BSR team will be back at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday.

Brandon Sweet Gets First Top Five Finish in 358 Modified Division

Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - May 10, 2011

Brandon Sweet and the Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprise team rolled into Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on Friday night for round two of the 2011 racing season, and after last weekend late race flat tire, Brandon and the team were looking for a much better finish.

With the stage set, and the sun finally shining after six straight days of rain at the Nasty Track of the North, Brandon and the BSR team were still at the race shop at 6pm as the pits began to fill up at the track, and hot laps just a few minutes away.  The team had spent most of the week repairing some major motor issues and by the time they got everything together there wasn’t enough time to scale the car and put the proper set up in.

Before they left for the track Brandon and the team had to decide what to do next.  They could take the time, set up the car and skip their qualifying heat, which would have relegated them to the rear of the field for the feature.  The other option was to put the car on the track for the heat race, and make the necessary adjustments afterwards.  The team chose the later option, and Brandon fought a really tight racecar to a fifth place finish in his heat race.

After the qualifying heat, Brandon and the BSR team went to work making major changes to the car in preparation for the 25-lap feature.   The changes were finished just in time to join the feature line up, and Brandon started from the fourth position, outside of the second row.  Brandon would battle the rough tacky rain beaten track and when the checkered flag flew he would come across the line side by side with Tim O’Brien just inches out of the third position and settled for a close fourth place finish in just his second 358 Modified race.

“This was a real hard fought battle tonight.  It is hard to believe just a couple hours ago we were back at the shop with the car torn apart.  I really have the thank my crew of Dad, Jason and Andrew for all of their hard work getting this Troyer ready to race”, says Sweet after the race.  “On the way here I really didn’t have a good feeling about tonight because of all the issues we had at the shop all week, and the fact that we didn’t even put a setup in the car.  I had no idea what we had to work with, but we all worked hard.  We worked until 2am on Thursday night, and were back at it on Friday at 7:30am and we just barely made it here on time.  It has been a long week”.

Brandon will be back at the Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park this Friday night looking to finish even higher, and maybe even put the car in victory lane.

Late Race Flat Tire Leads to Disappointing Day For Brandon Sweet at Can Am Opener

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design - May 3, 2011

The 2011 Racing season finally got underway on Saturday night at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York.  It was the first race for the newly formed Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team, and they were looking to make a big splash at their home track opener as he debuts in the 358 Modified division.

The night started off with qualifying and Brandon began the heat race in the sixth position.  He drove a tight racecar to a fourth place finish. After the heat, Brandon and the team made some changes to the car to free it up a bit and lined up in the seventh starting position for the 30 lap main event.

When the feature started, Brandon knew he had a fast car as he drove up to the third position by the halfway point of the race.  Unfortunately, a right front tire went soft and Sweet had to head into the pits. After a quick tire change by the Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises crew, Brandon returned to the track on the lead lap and restarted in the back of the pack.  Brandon was able to salvage a 14th place finish for the Jreck Subs sponsored car.

"This was not the kind of night we were hoping for, but it felt good to finally get back behind the wheel”, said Brandon after the race. “We will bounce back when we return to Can Am on Friday night”.

Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises Set for 2011 Season Debut This Weekend

Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design - April 19, 2011

A brand new season is upon us, and Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises is very excited to get the 2011 Racing season underway.  In the words of Darryl Waltrip, “Boogity Boogity Boogity! Lets Go Racing Boys”.

2011 will be an exciting season for Watertown, New York racer Sweet, who just turned 20 years old during the off-season.  After taking owner ownership of the team, and renaming it Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises, Sweet has announced plans to run weekly at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in nearby Lafargeville, New York as well as follow the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.  Sweet will also run in select events throughout the season at various other tracks.

“I love racing DIRT, as it is where I started racing, and we have made a lot of great friends and even a few enemies along the way," laughs Brandon, talking about his return to DIRT racing in 2011.

Last season was a roller coaster ride for Brandon Sweet and his team.  They had planned to run in the Southern States, following the USAR Pro Cup Series, and after five events, highlighted by a top ten finish at the famed Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina, long time sponsor, Freeman Racing Enterprises decided to cut back the funding, bringing his pavement racing career to an abrupt halt.  After a couple months of uncertainty, looking for sponsorship and trying to piece together a new racing program, Sweet eventually ended up back in the DIRTcar Sportsman ranks, and finished second in the “Daytona 500” of DIRTcar Sportsman racing at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.

“I would like to thank Freeman Racing Enterprises for the opportunity that they gave me last year, and everything they have done for my racing career”, says Sweet.  “Freeman Racing Enterprises made it possible for me to live a dream that most racers only dream about.  They were awesome to drive for, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart”.

While Sweet’s pavement racing plans were put on hold, they are still seeking sponsorship with the hopes of competing in a couple of ARCA Series events this season.  Sponsorship negotiations are ongoing, and hopefully we will have an announcement in the very near future.  Sweet remains focused on the team’s DIRTcar racing plans for 2011, but also hopes to return to his dream of making a name for himself as a professional racecar driver in a pavement series.

The Brandon Sweet Racing Enterprises team would like to thank all of their sponsors on board for the 2011 season.  They include Jreck Subs, Diamond Storage, Payroll by McWizz, Nelson’s Dry Cleaning, Blue Cat Cycles, and Spirit Art Tattoos.  We are very excited to get the 2011 season underway, beginning this Saturday, April 23rd at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the track and getting back to victory lane very soon.
